Tamworth Events are many and varied
Tamworth events and activities are featured here. The city of Tamworth is a regional centre point in the New England area of New South Wales and a part of the Tamworth Regional Council. Tamworth is approximately 310 km from Queensland and is situated roughly half way between Sydney and Brisbane.
The Kamiloroi people are the traditional custodians of Tamworth.
Among other things, Tamworth is know for the fact that it was the first town in Australia to have functioning electric street lights. And of course in January of every year, with all of the other Tamworth events considered, Tamworth joyfully lives up to its reputation as the Country Music Capital of Australia when we host the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
We also boast the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre; an impressive facility and arguably the largest such facility in the Southern Hemisphere. Here we also earn our reputation as the Equine Capital of Australia with numerous events taking place every year. This is just one of the many Tamworth events we encourage you to enjoy.

Tamworth Show
The Tamworth Show is a great day out for the whole family.
Some of the exciting activities that will be at the Tamworth Show include: Animal Nursery,Craft, Cooking, Photographs and Art, Sewing, Knitting and Quilting, School Art Display, Itinerant Trades, Shearing Competition and much, much more.
Tamworth Historical Society
Established in 1957 as the Peel Valley Historical Society, our mandate is the preservation of our city and region’s history. When you visit Calala Cottage Museum you will discover a home designed and built by Philip Gidley King in 1875. King became Tamworth’s first Mayor in 1876 and used Calala as his townhouse, for meetings and welcoming important visitors to the district.
Tamworth Council
Tamworth Regional Council is one of the biggest councils in inland NSW, with a population of over 58,000 and a prosperous economy based on building, retail, industry, hospitality and agriculture. The council area includes more than 1,200 kilometres of sealed regional and local roads, 250 separate parks or pieces of bushland, six libraries, six museums, and six swimming pools.
Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth
The Tamworth Country Music Festival is an annual music festival held in January in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia and is a celebration of Country Music culture and heritage in particular the national Australian country music scene. With numerous concerts and live performances at various venues, the festival lasts for two weeks over Australia Day. During this period the city of Tamworth comes alive.
Tamworth Power Station Museum
The highlight of any visit to the museum are the two John Fowler steam driven engines, the only two of their type operating in the world. There are also working replicas of the 1888 Crompton Pattern No 15 Dynamos, which represent the beginnings of electric street lighting in Tamworth. During the Country Music Festival and at intervals during the year, visitors can experience the excitement of the engines in operation.
Tamworth Regional Gallery
The Tamworth Regional Gallery is a cultural and community service managed by the Tamworth Regional Council. The Tamworth Regional Gallery maintains a commitment to providing excellent customer service by developing audience participation through events and education and offering cultural programs through exhibitions and collections. Conservation, care and development of the permanent collection are also a major focus of the gallery.
Tamworth Regional Heritage Festival
Discover our region’s rich heritage during the Tamworth Regional Heritage Festival. Featuring a program of exciting events, the festival will include cultural tours, exhibitions, open days, sharing local stories and educating audiences about the traditions that have shaped our regional community.
Tamworth Cycling Festival
In addition to world-class country music, Tamworth is a dynamic and progressive city boasting sport and lifestyle opportunities that are the envy of its city counterparts. Add to this its natural beauty and an enviable wining, dining and cafe culture and it’s easy to see why so many people visit our region each year.
